West Metro Fatal Duplex Fire

On June 6th, 2026 at 00:13 West Metro Fire Rescue and Arvada Fire Protection District responded to a structure fire in the 1300 block of Vivian St. in Jefferson County. Jeffcom 911 reported that a neighbor was calling after seeing smoke coming from the garage. Crews arrived to a to a small two-story duplex with a working garage fire with heavy smoke and flames extending into the living area, pulled a 1 3/4 for offensive fire attack and Tower 2 began the primary search with a report of a victim still inside. Engine 3 secured the water supply to Engine 2 and Engine 5 pulled a 2nd line to the 2nd floor for primary search and check for extension. Medic 5 assigned with medical and Engine 6 started the primary search of the next door unit. District 1 arrived and took over command. Three people that were inside the duplex at the time of the fire. Two were able to escape, but one person who was asleep upstairs was unable to get out. Tower 2 rescued the victim and brought them out of the home tot he front. Command requested 2 additional medics emergent to the scene. Two firefighters involved in the rescue suffered minor injuries and were transported with unknown injuries to the hospital for treatment and where both released later in the day. One person did not survive the fire. West Metro fire investigators determined that the fire was smoking related. Additional information provided by West Metro Fire Rescue
