At 17:33 on June 30th, 2026 Westminster Fire Department, North Metro Fire Rescue District and Thornton Fire Department responded to a possible structure fire in the 800 block of Lexington Ave. Engine 6 arrived to a two-story residential with working fire on the Bravo side and pulled a 1 3/4 for fire attack to the 2nd floor with Medic 6. Crews found fire in the attic and Engine 6 secured their own water supply. Battalion 71 arrived and assumed command and requested a 2nd alarm. Crews worked heavy fire with flames through the the roof and firefighters attempted an interior attack, but were pulled out and the fire changed was changed to a defensive strategy. Evacuation tones were requested with partial collapse inside the structure. Truck 74 and Truck 62 both started master stream operations and multiple handlines were used. The fire was put under control and crews worked an extended time for overhaul operations. The residents and their dog safely evacuated on their own. As a precaution, one neighboring home was evacuated, but the fire did not spread to any other structures. At the time the fire started, there was a thunderstorm in the area with significant lightning. Westminster Fire investigation indicates that the fire was started by a lightning strike to the house. The structural integrity of the home was compromised due to the fire and the large amount of water that was necessary to extinguish the fire.
