Arvada Barn & House Fire
Around 15:30 on February 24th, 2009 Arvada Fire Protection District responded to a fire caused by sparks from a passing train, which ignite dry grasses next to the tracks and spread to a home and barn, during a Red Flag Warning in the area. Arvada Police officers arrived on scene and were able to help rescue the occupants in the house at 11877 W. 80th Ave. Crews arrived and started fire attack and requested mutual-aid from Westminster Fire Department due to the fire threatened the Pioneer Ridge subdivision. Crews were able to get the fires extinguished, and started an extensive overhaul, the house and barn were a total loss. The fires started from a westbound Union Pacific train, which also reported to have sparked at least nine more fires that stretched for over 5 miles from W. 72nd Ave. & Oak St. along Hwy. 72 to Hwy 93.
