Denver Diner Kitchen Fire

Around 01:30 on October 12th, 2014 Denver Fire Department responded to a reported restaurant fire at 740 W. Colfax Ave. at the Denver Diner. Chief 2 arrived to heavy fire and flames through the roof of a one story restaurant, and assumed command on Colfax Ave. Engine 6 arrived and laid in from Galapago St. & Colfax Ave. and advanced a 1 3/4 line to the interior. Tower 4 arrived and set-up on Colfax Ave. and started roof ops with the aerial. Engine 1 positioned at Speer Blvd. & Inca St. and Engine 11 established Engine 1’s water supply at fire station 1. Truck 8 arrived and assigned as RIT, and Rescue 1 went to roof. A back-up line was advanced inside and a protection line was also stretched to the roof. Chief 6 assigned as the interior division where companies found a hood system fire with attic extension. Rescue 1 assigned as roof division where crews opened up and hit the fire from the top. Command requested an extra engine and truck over the 1st alarm, and Truck 15 arrived and started ventilation. The main body of fire was quickly knocked down and incident was placed under control within 30 minutes. Two firefighters sustained minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital. All restaurant employees and customers safety evacuated and no injuries or smoke inhalation was reported. The cascade at station 1 was used to fill air bottles.
