Thornton Home Explosion

On June 19th 2014 at approximately 15:30 Thornton Fire Department was dispatched to a reported home explosion at 13072 Monroe Drive. Crews arrived on scene within a few minutes and found a heavily damaged home. North Metro Fire Rescue was dispatched to the scene to assist. Firefighters were on scene for almost two hours extinguishing smoldering areas, searching for victims and neutralizing other hazards. One person was killed in the explosion. Police determined the cause was suicide and the remains of the home were eventually demolished.
