Wheat Ridge Motel Haz-Mat

Just before 18:30 on August 1st, 2015 Arvada Fire Protection District responded to a unknown substance odor at the American Motel at 10101 I-70 Frontage Rd. N. in Wheat Ridge. Dispatch advised that two employees were sick from a toxic chemical odor in the building. Engine 52 arrived at a large multi-unit structure with multiple sick patients, and request a Haz-Mat response. Battalion 51 arrived and requested Wheat Ridge Police Department to secure and clear the full building, and asked for 2 more engines to the scene. The motel was evacuated in the west parking lot with over 100 motel guests, and over 20 patients were treated for minor symptoms with three transported to a local hospital. Engine 51 & Engine 56 staged on the west side command post. Crews were able to determine that a substance was discharged in a motel room on the 3rd floor. The scene was secured around 21:30, and the guests were allowed back inside to their rooms.
