Around 18:45 on March 23rd, 2017 while Aurora Fire Rescue were battling a working multiple dwelling fire at Red Sky Condos at 14692 E. 2nd Ave. multiple 911 callers reported a building on fire at the southwest corner of I-225 and I-70. While companies were responding a large plume of black smoke was already visible, prompting a 2nd Alarm. With no truck companies left in the city, a mutual aid request was made to Denver Fire Department for mutual-aid. Aurora Engine 1 was first to arrive at 3750 Wheeling Street and discover a large 1 story industrial building with heavy smoke and flames showing. A defensive strategy was declared after crews reported that even two 2.5” and one BlitzFire were having no effect on the flames. A partial roof collapse made access to the seat of the fire via hose stream difficult. One report from a 911 caller indicated that someone might be trapped, but Aurora Fire Rescue reports that no injuries occurred. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
