Grand Junction Structure Fire
At 01:31 on April 26th, 2017 Grand Junction Fire Department responded to a multi-family residential structure fire at 2915 Orchard Ave. Engine 2 arrived to find flames rolling up the exterior of the building from the ground floor to the third floor. Engine 2 pulled a 1 ¾ pre-connect for initial attack. A second line was pulled and command split operations into 3 groups for each floor. A condo-lay was brought in from Truck 3 for additional lines. Knockdown was made and overhaul became extensive. Several residents were displaced by the fire, with four apartments left uninhabitable and multiple others damaged by smoke and search efforts. There were initially multiple patients and command requested a medical group with mutual aid from Clifton Fire. There were no serious injuries reported. Mesa County Sheriff, Grand Junction Police Department, and Clifton Fire Protection District were assisting in the call. School District 51 provided access to the neighboring school for use as a temporary shelter. The American Red Cross responded to assist residents displaced by the fire. There were no fire related injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
