Denver Fire Department was dispatched to a car versus light rail accident on Welton Street at Park Avenue West on June 30th, 2017, at approximately 9:15. Firefighters arrived on scene within minutes and found a Toyota Prius pinned between a northbound light rail train and a utility pole just north of the intersection.

Firefighters extricated the driver who was then able to step out of the car and get on a stretcher under her own power. She was taken by ambulance to a local hospital to get checked out. The train operator, one passenger and an RTD security officer, who suffered a minor cut, were on the train.

Firefighters spent about 30 minute cutting the Prius in half so it could be removed from between the pole and the train. Denver Police are investigating the accident.
