Residential Structure Fire

At 16:49 on September 23rd, 2017 Grand Junction Fire Department was auto-aided with Clifton Fire Protection District on a residential structure fire at 414 ½ Morning Dove Ct. Clifton already had apparatus assigned to two previous calls and received additional support from Grand Junction. Dispatch reported multiple callers stating single trailer on fire with heavy black smoke and spreading. MCSO was first on scene and confirmed a working structure fire with multiple exposures and fire spreading. Engine 4 arrived from the South, pulling up to a working single family, single story trailer home, with multiple exposures on fire and made attack. Battalion 1 arrived and staged West for command. Engine 2/Ambulance 2 arrived on scene and pulled 1 ¾” Handlines for attack. Engine 21 arrived and positioned on Lark Ct to stretch a line to the back of the structure on Lark Ct. Engine 21 was assisted by Ambulance 21 and made entry to find the fire in the rear of the East trailer involved. Engine 1 and Engine 5 arrived to the south and went on deck to assist current operations. The fire appeared to have started in 414 Morning Dove Court before spreading to 414 ½ and 412 ½ Morning Dove Ct. A third home directly exposed on the Charlie Side also caught fire on Lark Ct. In total, four trailers were seriously damaged as well as a shed. A fifth trailer was also moderately damaged by the intense heat. A second structure fire was dispatched at 17: 28 in Grand Junction’s area, Engine 1 and 5 detached to respond on the other. One dog died as a result of the fire, two additional dogs were rescued and injuries were reported by Firefighters/Public. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The American Red Cross responded to assist those displaced by the fire. Mesa County Sheriff responded to assist with traffic control and scene safety.
