Third Alarm Apartment Fire
At 18:22 on October 21st, 2018 Aurora 911 Emergency Communications dispatched out Aurora Fire Rescue to a reported apartment complex on fire at the Courtyards at Buckley Apartments in the 2100 block of S. Rifle Way. Engine 9 arrived on scene to active fire on the Charlie side, pulled a line in for fire attack and established their own water supply. Engine 9 requested a 2nd alarm with heavy fire conditions. Engine 7 arrived on the Alpha side and started interior attack with a attack line, and Truck 8 arrived and started roof ops. Battalion 3 arrived and assumed command, Tower 6 secured the utilities and Battalion 2 arrived and assigned as safety, and reported flames through the roof. Truck 8 started vertical ventilation and several holes were cut, Engine 4 set-up on the hydrant and pulled a second interior attack line for fire control. Command requested a 3rd alarm at 18:50 with South Metro Fire Rescue to fill the alarm. Command assigned Truck 8 to aerial ops with the master stream for fire attack from the roof. Fire was put under control at 19:25 and crews remained on scene with overhaul and control of the hot spots. Xcel was called to the scene to control a gas line leak in the complex, which was secured. 24 units in the building were left uninhabitable, American Red Cross was requested for support for 48 displaced residents. No injuries were reported and the fire is under investigation.
