On July 22nd, 2018 at 11:51 the I-70 Corridor Fire: Bennett-Watkins Fire Rescue, Sable Altura Fire Rescue, Strasburg Fire Protection District and Byers Fire Protection District with Buckley Air Force Base Fire and Emergency Services responded to a weed fire at E. 72nd Ave. and Hwy 79 (Kiowa-Bennett Rd.) threatening structures with mutual-aid from Southeast Weld County Fire Protection District and Buckley Air Force Base Fire and Emergency Services. Brush Engine 91 arrived to a 1/2 acre fire moving west with medium fuels, and started a direct attack on the fire. Crews got a quick handle on the fire and Sable Altura, Buckley, Byers and Southeast Weld County were cancelled before arriving on scene. Crews got the fire out at 12:28 and worked overhaul and hot spots.
