Denver Hay Bale Fire
Around 11:30 on December 17th, 2018 Denver 911 Communications Center alerted Denver Fire Department to a hay stack on fire at 5001 Packing House Rd (National Western Dr.) by the National Western Stock Show Complex, with multiple calls and smoke seen throughout the metro area. Engine 9 arrived to a large hay stack on fire, and secured a water supply and pulled in 1 3/4 line in for fire attack. Truck 4 and Tower 9 set-up aerial master stream ops on the hay bales, Chief 2 arrived and assumed command in the defensive ops. Truck 8 as RIT and Engine 7 supplied to Tower 9. Command requested 2 additional engine companies to the scene, Engine 8 established a water supply to Truck 4, and Rescue 2 arrived and assisted Engine 9. Crews had help from workers from the stockyard that assisted with heavy equipment including 2 front loaders. Train traffic was stopped in the area due to hose on the railroad tracks. Crews worked several hours with hot spots and overhaul. No injuries were reported and the fire investigator was called to the scene.
