Fatal Working House Fire

At 18:42 on October 22nd, 2018 Thornton Fire Department with assistance from North Metro Fire Rescue District responded to a reported residential structure fire in the 11800 block of St. Paul Circle. Thornton Communications Center advised that a possible party was still inside the structure. Engine 73 arrived on scene to a small single family residential with a working fire, flames through the roof. Engine 73 stretched attack line for fire control and search in the offensive strategy. Medic 74 pulled a second line in for fire attack on the Bravo side and made entry, and Medic 75 arrived as Rehab Medical. Engine 63 pulled a line in on the Alpha side and started primary search. Battalion 71 requested a major incident tone and assumed command. Crews found heavy fire in the garage area working in, Medic 74 found one victim inside that was unconscious and started medical treatment, Engine 75 and Squad 73 assisted with the patient. Truck 74 secured the utilities, Medic 75 transport one patient with serious/critical conditions to a local hospital, and Medic 71 was assigned to Rehab Medical. Crews worked an aggressively attack on the fire and extinguished after 19:00 with crews working extended overhaul and checking for hot spots. It was reported that one firefighter was also injured on scene with non-life threatening injures and was not transported by ambulance. The patient that was transported, was announced by hospital staff later that the resident had died. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
