At 09:40 on August 29th, 2019 Castle Rock Fire Rescue responded to BNSF 9150, that came to a stop on the Colorado’s Joint Line, with a fire in the engine compartment. Smoke was visible in the area of the train shortly before the fire department received the call. Crews arrived to find some flames coming from a stack on the unit.  With high voltages possible on the unit, and the desire to minimize damage to the unit, dry chemicals were used to put out the fire.  As crews made their way along the side of the locomotive, the amount of smoke increased significantly, though a lighter color. Crews extinguished the fire relatively quickly, though trains did not begin moving again southbound at Castle Rock on the Joint Line to later on in the afternoon.
