Byers Structure Fire

At 09:04 on February 22nd, 2019 Byers Fire Protection District along with the I-70 corridor responded to an confirmed residential structure fire at E. 26th Ave. & Xmore Rd. including the fire districts of Bennett-Wakins Fire Rescue, Strasburg Fire Protection District, Buckley Fire & Emergency Services and Deer Trail Rural Fire Protection District. MetCom advised units that several callers reporting flames showing from the outside of the house with heavy smoke. Chief 71 arrived on scene to a single-story structure with heavy smoke and fire showing from the Alpha/Bravo corner. Quint 81 arrived and assigned to the Alpha side, and quick attack to the front door. The main body of fire was located in a bedroom inside the Alpha/Bravo corner. Quint 91 arrived on scene and positioned on the Alpha/Bravo corner for roof and master stream operations. Quint 91’s crew split and assisted Quint 81 with interior operations and roof operations with Tender 92 securing a water supply to Quint 91. Crews worked exterior fire attack on the Alpha-Bravo corner and started a primary search inside the structure. The primary search proved negative and the homeowner confirmed an all clear. Crews withdrew from the structure with a partial floor collapse and started defensive operations. Quint 91 started master stream aerial ops, and Medic 71 arrived and set-up with rehab. Crews worked several attack lines on the fire, with fire extending into the attic area. Crews worked fire for a extended time and got the fire under control with an extensive overhaul. American Red Cross was called to the scene to assist. The fire is under investigation and no injuries were reported.
