Greeley Church Fire

At 20:09 July 7th, 2019 Greeley Fire Department responded to the report of structure fire in the 7000 block of 28th St. in Greeley. Callers reported a fire in the attic of the church and a reporting party was having members evacuate. 3 Engines, 2 Ladder Trucks, 1 Battalion Chief and 1 Paramedic Ambulance responded on the initial dispatch. The fire crews first-to-arrive were on scene 5 minutes after the call was placed to Dispatch. Crews immediately went to work extinguishing the fire and ventilating. A fire in the attic progressed to a second alarm fire, and additional GFD units, and 2 more fire engines for the 2nd alarm arrived and assisted with fire control. Windsor-Severance Fire Rescue and Loveland Fire Rescue Authority responded to the scene for mutual-aid. No injuries were reported; no civilians or firefighters were transported to the hospital. Witnesses advised Dispatch that they observed a lightning strike in the area, but the origin and cause of the fire is still under investigation.
