Lakewood Restaurant Fire

Art 02:20 on October 7th, 2019 West Metro Fire Rescue responded to a commercial fire at the Carniceria Los Tapatios Restaurant 5989 W. 1st Ave. in Lakewood. Jeffcom advised that 911 callers reporting flames showing. Engine 7 arrived to a one-story commercial building with a working fire on the Alpha side, and pulled a 1 3/4 line in for fire attack in the offensive strategy. Engine 3 secured a water supply and pulled a 2nd line off Engine 7. District 2 arrived and took command on the Alpha-Bravo corner. Engine 8, Medic 7 & Medic 3 assisted Engine 7 with fire attack, and Engine 1 arrived and made entry in the Charlie side. Crews worked heavy fire in the attic with a partial roof collapse, the fire self-ventilated through the roof and command transitioned to a defensive strategy with aerial master streams with Tower 2 & Tower 8. Medic 3 was reassigned to medical rehab. The fire was put under control at 02:56 and crews started an extensive overhaul. Preliminary investigation shows the fire was accidental, caused by an electrical malfunction in a refrigeration unit. There were no injuries.
