
Littleton 2nd Alarm Apartment Fire
Littleton Fatal 2nd Alarm
At 04:01 on October 9th, 2019 South Metro Fire Rescue responded to a reported apartment fire at 2901 W. Centennial Dr. in Littleton. MetCom advised that numerous 911 callers reporting a fire with a person trapped at the Verona Apartments. Littleton Police officers were first to arrive, they encountered heavy smoke conditions and evacuated all of the surrounding apartments. When Engine 11 and Medic 11 arrived flames rapidly spread out of the apartment and engulfed the stairwell, prompting a 2nd Alarm response. A transitional attack was used to prevent the flames from extending any further, then firefighters entered the burning apartment to continue extinguishing the fire and to search for the trapped individual. Battalion Chief 1 assumed command in the offensive strategy and Engine 13 assisted Engine 11 with a water supply. Ladder 12, Engine 38, Engine 16 and Tower 18 all conducted primary searches. The victim was quickly located and removed by 11’s to fresh air where crews immediately began treatment. The person was transported emergent to the hospital and tragically, did not survive. Searches inside the adjacent units were clear and no other injuries occurred. Firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to other apartments, but 3 units did sustain smoke damage.
