Byers Xmore Road Structure Fire
Byers Structure Fire
On July 19th, 2020 at 16:57 MetCom dispatched out the I-70 Corridor on a report of a residential structure fire in the 3100 block of Xmore Rd. in the Byers Fire District. 911 callers were reporting a fire that had started in a shed, and extending into the residence. Upon arrival Chief 71 sized up a one-story residential structure with a full basement with fire involvement. There were also two outbuildings and a vehicle on the Charlie side that were fully involved. Multiple attack lines were pulled to simultaneously knock down the exterior fire, while permitting an interior attack in the residence. The interior fire quickly spread through the attic, however, aggressive work by the responding crews in opening up the roof and pulling large amounts of ceiling were effective in controlling the fire in approximately 45 minutes. Rural water operations were required as there are no hydrants in this area. Extensive overhaul was required of the attic and exterior fire areas. While the residence was severely damaged, the good work by the crews did result in a significant portion of the personal possessions of the owners being salvageable.
