Cherry Creek State Park Wildland Fire
On August 13th, 2020 at approximately 14:55 South Metro Fire Rescue, Aurora Fire Rescue, and Buckley Fire & Emergency Services were dispatched to a wildland fire near the shooting range in Cherry Creek State Park. Firefighters arrived on scene and found a slow moving fire in rugged terrain just south of the range. It took firefighters about an hour to bring the fire under control using brush trucks and hand tools and then another hour to mop up hot spots. Tankers and a rehab area were set up in the parking lot of the shooting range. No injuries were reported, no structures were damaged and the cause is under investigation.
