Grand Junction Outbuilding Fire
On December 14th, 2020 at 13:35 Grand Junction Fire Department was dispatched for a residential structure assignment in the 1000 Block of 24 Rd. for reports of an outbuilding on fire. Callers reported a tool shed on fire with a jeep inside and explosions coming from within. Mesa County Sheriff’s deputy was first on-scene reporting fire from the building, spreading to exposures within close proximity. Battalion 1 arrived on-scene, sizing up a working fire in a single story, 20 x 30 outbuilding with threatened exposures and assumed 24 Rd. command in the offensive strategy. Truck 6 arrived on scene and stretched a line for fire attack. A mutual-aid water tender was requested from Lower Valley Fire Protection District for water supply in the rural area. Truck 1 arrived shortly after and assisted with fire attack, exposure protection and water supply, and Brush 4 arrived on scene and staged. Ambulance 11 arrived and was assigned medical group. Engine 4 arrived and staged in the driveway and was released within minutes of staging. Other companies attached to the incident were released before arriving. A command staff notification was sent for a working fire. The fire was contained to the outbuildings, the cause is unknown, and the fire is under investigation. There were no reported injuries.
