Commercial Structure Fire

At 23:13 on April 12th, 2020 West Metro Fire Rescue & Denver Fire Department both received 911 calls for a reported building on fire near W. 9th  Ave. & Sheridan Blvd. Engine 1 arrived to a medium size single-story strip mall with a working fire from the Charlie side, pulled a 1 3/4 line for fire attack and established their own water supply. Engine 3 arrived and pulled a 2nd line in with Medic 1 and Medic 11. District 1 arrived and assumed command in the offensive strategy and life safety. Denver Engine 12 secured a water supply and pulled an 1 3/4 attack line to the Alpha side with active fire from the roof line with Truck 12 and West Metro Engine 16. Crews worked fire that was directly behind the Holiday Liquors, that caused significant damage to the roof line and rear area of the business. Crews got fire under controlled at 23:45 and started overhaul. West Metro investigator reported that the fire was accidental and most likely caused by homeless people trying to stay warm on a very cold night.
