Applewood Under Construction Defensive Fire
West Metro Structure Fire
At 03:25 on November 15th, 2021 West Metro Fire Rescue with auto-aid from Arvada Fire Protection District responded to a structure fire at 2132 Applewood Dr. in Applewood. Engine 5 advised Jeffcom that smoke and flames were showing from the pad at Station 5. Engine 5 arrived to a new construction apartment building fully involved and started defensive strategy on the Alpha side with Medic 5. Engine 5 secured their water supply from at W. 21st Ave. & Yellowstone St. and Engine 17 established the water supply at W. 23rd Ave. & Youngfield St. and hit the fire with the deck gun. Tower 2 arrived and started aerial ops, and several hands lines were pulled for defensive operations. District 1 arrived and assumed command, with heavy fire conditions. The fire gutted at least 3 units in one building, and damage to a second building. Fire was so hot that shutters partially melted on a home across the street. West Metro’s drone checked for hotspots with the infrared camera during the investigation. Lakewood Police Department closed Youngfield St. for several hours.
