Cherry Creek State Park Mop-up and Mitigation
Fire Mop-up and Mitigation
Firefighters from South Metro Fire Rescue and several other agencies spent three days mopping up and mitigating hazards after a vegetation fire burned through parts of Cherry Creek State Park on February 7th, 2021. 5280Fire.com caught up with crews from South Metro and Douglas County Emergency Management as they completed their work on February 10th, 2021. Despite all the activity, it was business as usual for the local wildlife. A pair of bald eagles perched overhead watched over their nest while a couple of coyotes stalked geese from the shoreline of the reservoir. Firefighters advised that the fire is out and over 200 acres were burned. No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
