Morgan County Grass Fire

On August 27th, 2021 at 23:16 Wiggins Rural Fire Protection District and Morgan County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched by Morgan County Communications Center for several lightning strike grass fires in the area of Morgan County Rd. 8 and Rd. Q. Arriving units requested mutual-aid from area departments. Wiggins Fire did lose a grass truck on the first day of operations, and no firefighters were injured. Operations were completed that evening. However, on August 28th, 2021 Wiggins Rural Fire Protection District again was dispatched out in the same area with new fire start ups. Crews arrived and requested mutual-aid with Brush, Fort Morgan, New Raymer-Stoneham, Southeast Weld, and Colorado DFPC. DFPC also provided aerial support for fire retardant drops as well with mapping the burn area. Crews were able to get the fire 100% contained with 3,084 acres burned. No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported.
