South Metro Commercial Fire
On June 14th, 2021 at 19:16 South Metro Fire Rescue Tower 18 responded to an outside fire in the 8300 block of Carder Ct. in unincorporated Douglas County. Tower 18 reported a large column of smoke in the air and to start a couple more engines on the call, and dispatch advised that they were receiving more 911 calls on the fire. Chief 270 in the area advised on scene to a front-end loader fully-involved and extending into an outbuilding. Medic 16 arrived to a working fire, requested a tender for water ops. Tower 18 arrived and upgraded the call to a confirmed working structure fire, and utilized a split lay, with a 5 inch, and pulled a 2 1/2 for fire attack in the defensive strategy. Engine 40 continued the 5 inch to the hydrant with Medic 16, and secured the water supply to Tower 18. Safety 35 arrived and started primary search in a warehouse type building, and confirmed the building was unoccupied. District Chief 1 arrived and assumed command, and assigned Engine 20 to fire attack with Tower 18. Crews got the fire under control at 19:56 and started an extended overhaul. No injuries were reported, but crews battled dehydration working the fire in the extreme hot weather. SMFR Fire Marshal started the investigation.
