South Powhaton Road Grass Fire

On February 20th, 2021 at approximately 15:25 South Metro Fire Rescue and Aurora Fire Rescue were dispatched to a grass fire along S. Powhaton Rd. just south of the intersection with E. Otero Dr. Firefighters arrived on scene within minutes of the call and found a small grass fire burning west from S. Powhaton Rd. toward nearby homes in the 8200 block of S. Old Hammer Lane. Crews attacked the blaze from both Powhaton Rd. and Old Hammer Lane. Firefighters doused the flames within 20 minutes and spent an additional 30 on scene mopping up hot spots. No injuries were reported, no structures were damaged and the cause of the fire is under investigation. The fire burned approximately 1-acre.
