Aurora Mall Hazmat Response

On February 7th, 2022 at approximately 09:15 Aurora 911 Emergency Communications dispatched Aurora Fire Rescue to an odor investigation at the Town Center at Aurora. Crews arrived on scene and received elevated gas readings in the JCPenney store. Aurora Fire’s hazardous materials unit was dispatched to the scene and the mall was closed until the source of the gas was located. Firefighters spent about an hour on scene searching for the source, assisting Xcel and ventilating the building. A leak was located near the food court. About 10:10, the incident was turned over to Xcel and the mall was permitted to resume operations.
