La Junta West 1st Street Commercial Fire
2nd Alarm Defensive Fire
At approx 06:41 on October 17th, 2022 La Junta Fire Department was toned out for a reported structure fire at WW Feed & Supply, 303 W. 1st St. Upon arrival heavy fire and smoke was seen from the front middle of the business. Fire was penetrating out the back as well. A second alarm was toned out and mutual-aid from Rocky Ford, Manzanola, Cheraw and Las Animas. Numerous hand lines and master streams were used to fight this defensive fire. Electrical crew from City of La Junta assisted with getting the power turned off and Black Hills shut off the gas. After the roof began to collapse, crews from the City of La Junta streets and water department brought tractors to tear apart the building to make it easier to extinguish the entire fire. A huge shout out goes to all of the community and business’s who brought us food and drinks. Excellent work by La Junta Police Department, Colorado State Patrol and CDOT for taking care of closing down roads for the safety of the operations and all of the first responders.
