Fatal 2nd Alarm Apartment Fire

At 04:00 on April 8th, 2023 South Metro Fire Rescue was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire at the Ivy Crossing Apartments, 2380 South Quebec Street. Engine 21 advised of flames showing from their station two miles away and a 2nd Alarm was called. Engine 21 arrived on scene and found heavy smoke and fire coming from a three-story multi-family residential structure and started fire attack with Medic 21 starting the rescue of residents that were trapped on balconies. Additional resources were requested from Aurora Fire Rescue and Denver Fire Department. Firefighters and Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Deputies rescued several people from balconies and the fire had blocked the interior hallway. It took approximately two hours for firefighters to bring the incident under control. Crews were on scene several more hours conducting overhaul. One person was killed in the fire, two residents were taken by ambulance to a local hospital with severe injuries and two firefighters sustained minor injuries and were transported. Twenty three apartments were impacted by the fire. The American Red Cross was called to the scene to assist displaced residents. The SMFR Fire Marshal’s Office and Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the cause of the fire. Additional information provided by South Metro Fire Rescue
