Arvada 2nd Alarm Fire

At 14:56 on August 19th, 2023 Arvada Fire Protection District responded to a reported apartment fire in the 6900 block of Independence St. Battalion 51 enroute with black smoke showing from W. 72nd Ave, & Kipling St. Jeffcom received multiple callers reporting heavy fire from the back of the structure. Battalion 51 arrived to a working fire in a two-story residential with heavy fire showing from the back of the structure and set-up on the Alpha side in the offensive strategy and requested 2 additional engines. Engine 51 arrived and started fire attack and pulled a line in for fire attack with Medic 51 and Truck 54 started the the primary search. Engine 53 secured the water supply to Engine 51 and crews worked heavy fire conditions from two-attached homes. Medic 54 assigned as medical and Tower 57 as ventilation and utilities. Engine 55 assigned to pulled additional attack line off Engine 51 to the Charlie side. Command requested a 2nd alarm with collapse issues and the fire was put into defensive operations. Crews also worked extension into the vegetation and trees. Command downgraded the 2nd alarm response and some of the units were cancelled. Crews remained on scene for several hours with an extended overhaul and investigation. All occupants safely got out of the structure, no injuries were reported and a couple family pets were still missing during the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
