Fairmount Chief Fletcher Retirement
Retirement and Change of Command
Fire Chief Alan Fletcher of the Fairmount Fire Protection District retired on May 12th, 2023 with 45 years of experience in the fire service, including the last 10 as Fire Chief to Fairmount Fire. The ceremony also was the change of command to Mike Piper, the current Fire Chief of the Arvada Fire Protection District. Piper will serve as Fairmount’s interim Fire Chief while Arvada Fire will be providing operational and administrative services to the Fairmount Fire district. Chief Fletcher started his career as a volunteer in September of 1978 with the Genesee Fire Protection District, then hired as a full time firefighter in June of 1984 before becoming Captain and then Assistant Chief from 1984 until 1990. In July of 1990 he was hired with the Cunningham Fire Protection District, which is now South Metro Fire Rescue and served as Fire Inspector, Fire Investigator, Lieutenant, Captain, Battalion Chief, Division Chief and Accreditation Manager. In May of 2013 he was hired as the Fire Chief of Fairmount. He is currently on the Jefferson County Emergency Communications Authority (JCECA) Board of Directors for the Special Districts since 2017 and also served on two terms with the City of Centennial as a Council Member from 2001 to 2003 and help in the formation of the City of Centennial.
