Pueblo County North Creek Fire
North Creek Fire
On April 15th, 2023 firefighters from across Pueblo county battled a wildland fire north of Beulah. Shortly after noon, Beulah Fire Protection and Ambulance District was notified of a fire oat 3600 North Creek Rd. close to the county line. Firefighters arrived to find a fire quickly growing in the winds on the east side of the road on the side of a large hill. Firefighters began hiking into the fire and spent the majority of the day cutting line around the fire. Air resources were called in and were a great benefit in containing the fire. One helicopter from Cañon Helitack, two single engine air tankers (SEATs) from Pueblo Airport, and one Large Air Tanker (LAT) from the Denver area made multiple dumps on the fire throughout the day. The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control Multi Mission Aircraft (MMA) also flew the fire and last mapped it at 43 acres. Multiple residences up and down North Creek Road were evacuated along with animals and livestock, those evacuations were lifted at 18:00. As of April 16th. 2023 crews continue working on containment and the fire was listed at 10%. Approximately 90 firefighters and fire personnel are fighting the blaze and had help as it burned into the old Junkins Fire burn scar from 2016. The U.S. Forest Service reported the cause of the fire was determined to be human cause from a campfire used by a hunter. Additional information provided by Code 4 Photography
