West Metro Building Fire

On December 19th, 2023 at 05:45 West Metro Fire Rescue and Arvada Fire Protection District responded to a reported structure in the 7300 block of W. 38th Ave. in Wheat Ridge. Engine 16 arrived on scene to large apartment complex with horns activated and started the investigation. Engine 16 found fire from a commercial space on the first floor with apartments above, pulled 1 3/4 for primary search and fire control with Medic 16. District 1 took over command on the Alpha side in the offensive strategy and assigned Medic 17 as medical group. Engine 17 arrived and secured the water supply to Engine 16. Wheat Ridge Police Department closed W. 38th Ave. in both directions for fire operations. The fire was contained to one unit on the first floor and the buildings sprinkler system was active. There is limited smoke damage throughout the rest of the building. The cause of the fire was accidental, due to spontaneous combustion cause by rags that had been used for staining. The unit had construction materials stored inside for a future restaurant. No injuries were reported. Additional information provided by West Metro Fire Rescue
