Arvada Defensive Structure Fire

On June 4th, 2024 at 06:13 Arvada Fire Protection DistrictWest Metro Fire Rescue and Fairmount Fire Protection District responded to a reported commercial structure from the storage facility at 8495 I-70 Frontage Rd. Jeffcom starting receiving multiple callers and from motorists driving on I-70 westbound reporting flames and thick smoke showing with the wind pushing the smoke across I-70. Engine 51 arrived with a working fire with heavy fire from the roof of a large two-story storage facility, pulled a 1 3/4 for fire attack in the offensive strategy and Engine 16 secured the water supply. Battalion 51 arrived and assumed command and crews were met with heavy fire conditions and Command moved the fire to the defensive strategy with fire burning on the second floor and into the attic throughout much of the length of the building. Truck 31 assigned with master stream operations and Command requested two additional engines and one truck company to the scene. Medic 16 assigned with medical and Truck 54 arrived and started master stream operations off the I-70 Frontage Rd. and Carr St. Engine 56 arrived and assisted with the water supply to Truck 54. Two firefighters received medical treatment during this incident, while no members of the public were injured. The storage building housed around 78 storage units which most of them were impacted or damaged in the fire and the cause is under investigation. Crews were able to leave the scene late in the day, and investigators left the scene with on-site security that patrolled all night until the investigation could resume in the morning and Arvada investigators remain on scene.
