Berthoud Fire Museum Grand Opening
On May 11th, 2024 the Caretakers of Tradition opened the Berthoud Hose Company # 1 Apparatus Showroom at the Berthoud Fire Protection District Station 61. The Caretakers of Tradition made up of retired Berthoud Firefighters raised the funds and donations of labor and material to complete the addition on the south side of the Fire Station near the main entrance to the Fire Administration Offices. As visitors enter the Fire Station, they will now be able to view the fully restored 1888 hose cart and 1927 GMC / Julius Pearse fire engine. In addition to the hose cart and engine the showroom contains other Berthoud Fire memorabilia that tells the story of the department from 1888 to today. The Wall of Flame lists all the community members, businesses and contractors that contributed to the project. The centerpiece of the Wall of Flame is a large illustration of a firefighter from 1888 handing an axe to a firefighter of today symbolizing both change and tradition, building the legacy of a Berthoud Firefighter. The community grand opening concluded with a hose cutting ceremony utilizing an extrication cutter to officially cut the hose and open the showroom.
