South Adams 2nd Alarm Fire

Around 13:52 on June 17th, 2024 South Adams County Fire Department, Adams County Fire Rescue and Platte Valley Ambulance responded to a reported structure fire in the 6200 block of Kearney St. in Commerce City. Adcom advised that multiple callers reporting structure on fire and possible party inside that can not get out. Engine 22 enroute reported a header from E. 60th Ave. & Holly St. and Battalion 21 requested a major incident tone. Engine 22 arrived to a two-story multiple-family structure with a working fire from the 1st floor extending to the attic and pulled a 1 3/4 for fire attack and Engine 23 started the primary search of the first floor and second floor. Tower 24 secured the water supply and then went to the roof for vertical ventilation. Engine 11 pulled a line off of Engine 22 to the Charlie side for exterior fire attack. Battalion 21 arrived and took over command and requested two additional engines. Engine 13 assigned for primary search of the basement with Truck 28. Chief 24 advised of trapped parties in the basement, and both were rescued through the window wells and command requested 3 more medics to the scene. Engine 11 advised of a roof collapse and evacuation tones to withdraw from the structure and the fire went to defensive operations. Command requested a 2nd alarm as crews worked heavy fire conditions and fire through the roof. The fire was put under control after about 2 hours into the incident and crews started a extended overhaul and the investigation. Three patients were transported to local hospitals with unknown injuries. American Red Cross responded to assisted with the incident.
