Tower 21 Dedication

On December 13th, 2024 Golden Fire Department held a ceremony for the dedication of their new Tower 21 at Station 21. An invocation was given by Fire Department Chaplain Kevin Shive. Fire Chief Kasey Beal started off the ceremony by thanking everyone for attending and was followed by 2 other speakers, Mayor Pro Tem Rob Reed and City Manager Scott Vargo. Chief Beal then announced that Tower 21 was named in honor of Robert “Bob” Burrell, former Volunteer Assistant Chief who served in multiple roles with Golden Fire from 1974 to 2023. Tom Young was also in attendance; he is the only other firefighter with an engine named in his honor for his 42 years of service and sacrifice when he was paralyzed from the neck down in 1990 while assisting a downed hang glider on Lookout Mountain. A ceremonial wet down was performed by Mayor Pro Tem Rob Reed. Tower 21 is a 2024 Pierce Velocity 100-foot Ascendant mid-mount heavy duty aerial platform with 2000 GPM pump and 300-gallon water tank. The White over Red livery is a throwback to the earlier days of Golden Fire and all new vehicles will be painted in this heritage livery. Golden Police Department, Pleasant View Fire Department, Stadium Medical, Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC), Front Range Fire Apparatus and others were also on hand at the event.
