Lockheed Martin Brush Fire

On September 17th, 2024 just after 11:00 South Metro Fire Rescue and West Metro Fire Rescue responded to the property of Lockheed Martin, 12257 S. Wadsworth Blvd. for a reported small brush fire. South Metro Fire Emergency Communications advised that several 911 callers and one reporting 300×400 foot fire spreading and Battalion Chief 1 upgraded to a large brush fire and requested the Douglas County 5TA Type 2 helicopter. Brush 19 arrived to a large slow moving brush fire and started fire attack. Battalion Chief 1 arrived and assumed command and assigned Engine 16 to set-up the water supply to Brush 19. West Metro Brush 15 and assisted Brush 19 with fire attack on the right flank and West Metro Medic 15 as medical. Tender 40 arrived and assisted Engine 16 with the water supply. A 2nd alarm was requested at 11:47 for as additional crews needed on the line as the fire spread through fuels of sage and pine trees. The Douglas County helicopter made numerous water drops on the fire. Crews were able to get control of the fire later in the afternoon.

The fire was determined to be 1 ½ to 2 acres in size and caused by failure of electrical lines. The fire did not threatening any structures and no reported injuries. Additional information provided by South Metro Fire Rescue
