At approximately 12:40 on April 5th, 2024, Pueblo County 911 Communications began receiving reports of a brush fire near Jerry Murphy Road and Vision Hills Parkway in Pueblo West. The Pueblo West Fire Department and Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services Division were dispatched to the area to investigate. On scene crews quickly determined they would need additional resources and contacted Pueblo City 911 Communications for mutual aid from the Pueblo Fire Department. At 13:00, Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office began evacuating the surrounding area and additional resources were requested from surrounding counties, including Fremont, El Paso, & Las Animas, as well as air support from the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control. At 15:30, there was an update given by the Pueblo Fire Department that the fire was 52 acres and approximately 20 percent contained. Later at 17:30, the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office advised the fire had spread to 82 acres and was 80 percent contained. Firefighters continued working into the night and next several days; at 10:45 on Monday April 8th, 2024, the fire officials put out an update that the fire had burned 107 acres and was 100 percent contained.
