Berthoud Fire Protection District includes two fire stations which provide fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical services, wildland protection, extrication, hazardous materials, risk reduction, and public education. These services are offered to an estimated 24,000 District residents, and nearly 100,000 commuters and visitors every day; an increase of more than 40% in the last 6 years. The District spans 103 square miles in the counties of Larimer, Boulder, and Weld, and includes significant portions of US Highway 287 and Interstate 25.

In 2018 Berthoud Fire responded to 1,457 calls for service.  Since 2012, the number of calls for service have increased 94%.  Berthoud Fire works closely with the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, Thompson Valley EMS, State of Colorado / Division of Fire Prevention & Control, and the Town of Berthoud. In addition to proving the town of Berthoud with 24/7 fire protection services, the District offers many programs and services to the community at no charge.

Berthoud Fire Protection District was formed in 1888 as the Berthoud Hose Company No. 1 and in 1950 became the Berthoud Fire Protection District.

Berthoud Fire Protection District holds an Auto-Aid (Automatic-Aid) agreement with Loveland Fire Rescue Authority.

Berthoud Fire along with Loveland Fire Rescue Authority, Estes Valley Fire Protection District, Poudre Fire Authority, & Wellington Fire Protection District entered a new multi-agency dispatching system which utilizes closest-unit dispatching between Larimer Emergency Telephone Authority, Loveland Emergency Communications Center, Estes Park Emergency Communications and Fort Collins 911 on September 14, 2020.
