On March 24th, just after 19:15 Loveland Fire Rescue Authority, Thompson Valley EMS, and the Loveland Police Department were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of East 29th Street and North Madison Avenue. As initial units were responding, additional 911 callers reported that a vehicle had struck a structure and that the structure was on fire. The incident was upgraded to a confirmed structure fire. Engine 45 arrived on scene to find a fully involved detached garage with an immediate exposure threat on the Bravo side. Engine 45 deployed a hose line for exposure protection, while Engine 41 secured a water supply for Engine 45. Battalion 41 assumed Incident Command and assigned incoming resources as they arrived. Witnesses reported that the driver of the involved vehicle was unable to exit the car before the garage became fully engulfed. A downed, energized power line and a large, unstable cottonwood tree burning on the Delta side created additional challenges for responding crews. Firefighters and other responders remained on scene for several hours conducting overhaul operations and assisting LPD with the investigation.
