Superior Volunteer Fire Department

Superior Volunteer Fire Department (SVFD), was located in Boulder County (Colorado).

The department was created from original town resident Gladys Forshee in 1972, staffing for the department was a challenge, and Gladys with the help of other woman volunteers fought fires during the daytime hours while the men volunteered nights and weekends. At that time they were one of the few departments with woman volunteer firefighters in Colorado, and they called themselves the “Flamettes”. The department was also known as the Superior Fire Department.

The department merged with the Cherryvale Fire Protection District in 1978, Cherryvale merged with the Rocky Mountain Fire District in 2007 and Rocky Mountain merged with Mountain View Fire Rescue in 2021.
