Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design

Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design (RMCAD), located in Jefferson County (Colorado).

Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design originally was founded in 1963 by Philip J. Steele as the Rocky Mountain Scholl of Art in the foothills.

In 2002, RMCAD purchased the former JCRS (Jewish Consumptives’ Relief Society) Campus, which was the largest free tuberculosis (TB) treatment facility in the world. The area was known as Spivak and served 148 acres and 34 buildings, and was served by the Lakewood-Mountair Fire Department and currently by the West Metro Fire Rescue.

Slowly the City of Lakewood began to encroach the area and by the mid-1950’s the decline of TB, the institution decided to change its mission to cancer research, and it assumed a new name called the American Medical Center (AMC). Additional information provided by Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design.
