Longmont Sugar Mill Structure Fire
Sugar Mill Defensive Fire
Just before 00:30 on March 25th, 2025 Longmont Fire Department and Mountain View Fire Rescue responded to a reported structure fire at the abandoned old Sugar Mill at 11801 Sugar Mill Rd. Longmont Fire crews arrived to active fire inside the building on the northwest side of the property. Battalion 201 arrived and due to the dangerous conditions of the buildings at the site, weather conditions and as the buildings are unoccupied, the decision was made to not risk the lives of the firefighters and kept them outside the structures with the focus to keep the flames contained to one building. Longmont Fire units maintained responsibility for one side of the structure and Mountain View Fire units kept an eye on the other and also insured any airborne embers stayed away from the outdoor RV storage lot on the south side of the property. Crews remained on site to put water on any hotspots as they popped up. No injuries were reported and the cause is under investigation. The building is the former Great Western Sugar Factory and Longmont Sugar Mill which had several fires in the past including December 9th, 2020, September of 2016, December 25th, 2017 and August 25th, 2024.
