At 02:01 on August 25th, 2024 Longmont Fire Department and Mountain View Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire at 11801 Sugar Mill Rd. with reports of flames inside the complex. Crews arrived to fire showing on the property. The fire was concentrated around wood materials which have been stored in the machine shed for years. Master stream operations were utilized to get water on the flames, however due to the hazardous condition of the structure crews were not able to make entry in to the building on foot. For safety reasons the fire was allowed to burn out on it’s own and crews stayed on scene until the fire was out. Lafayette Fire Department and Boulder Rural Fire Rescue also responded.  The building is the former Great Western Sugar Factory and Longmont Sugar Mill which had several fires in the past including September of 2016, December 25th, 2017 and December 9th, 2020. The cause is under investigation. Additional information provided by Mountain View Fire Rescue
