Littleton Semi Accident

At 23:40 on June 15th, 2017 Littleton Fire Rescue, South Metro Fire Rescue and Denver Fire Department responded to multiple reports of a semi versus apartment building accident with fire at 800 West Belleview Avenue. A tractor drawn car carrier traveling eastbound left the roadway, struck 2 parked cars and a large tree before coming to a stop within inches of the occupied building. The driver was able to safely exit the cab of the truck, which burst into flames. Littleton and Englewood Police Officers were first to arrive and begin evacuating residents. Ladder 12 and Engine 11 arrived at the same time and both pulled 2.5” attack lines. Engine 11 stretched a 5-inch supply line to the hydrant at Belleview and Inca. Battalion Chief 1 assumed command, named Belleview the Alpha Side, assigned Medic 11 as Medical Group and transmitted a 2nd Alarm. Command operated on LFR Ops 4 with Level 2 Staging on LFR Ops 2.

Truck 38 was the first DFD unit to arrive; they advised Littleton was already on scene, assumed command and tied into a hydrant at Huron and Belleview, keeping units on DFD Tac 7. Engine 37 tied into the hydrant at Belleview and Inca with their Humat and DFD Command assigned Truck 28 and Engine 36 to primary searches. Meanwhile, LFR Command assigned Battalion 32 as the Charlie Division with SAM10, Tower 32 and Engine 13 to perform searches.

The semi fire was quickly extinguished and all searches of the apartment units proved negative with no fire extension. 4 patients were transported to the hospital including police officers with smoke inhalation.
