Arapahoe Landfill Wildland Fire
Landfill Wildland Fire
On December 9th, 2020 at 18:45 South Metro Fire Rescue and Aurora Fire Rescue were dispatched to a reported wildland fire in the 25600 block of E. Quincy Rd. Firefighters arrived on scene and found a large slow moving fire near the Denver Arapahoe Disposal Site Landfill. Firefighters were on scene for over an hour dousing the flames and mopping up hotspots. Firefighters were forced to take additional precautions due to possibility of hazardous substances in the landfill and the presence of methane wells in the area. MetCom used a drone to survey the scene from the air and look for hot spots. Approximately ten acres burned, no injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
