Arvada Fatal Apartment Fire

At 00:18 on December 14th, 2022 Arvada Fire Protection District was dispatched to an apartment building fire at W. 58th Ave. and Urban St. Arvada Police officers arrived and started evacuations with reports of a possible party trapped. Battalion 52 arrived to a three-story apartment building with flames from the first floor spreading to the outside balconies. Engine 51 arrived and started fire attack and search in the offensive strategy and secured their own water supply. Command requested additional engine and truck to the scene. Engine 58 pulled a 2nd line off Engine 51 and started exterior fire attack. Numerous residents who were unable to evacuate through the interior corridors because of the heavy smoke conditions and were rescued to safety from balconies by the arriving firefighters. Two more ambulances were requested from command with an additional engine. Unfortunately one fatality was associated with the fire and multiple pets did not survive. Multiple patients were transported to local hospitals including two Arvada Police officers that were treated for smoke inhalation and released later. The fire is under investigation for cause and origin. RTD brought a bus to the scene to keep the building occupants warm, VOI assisted and supported victims, and American Red Cross helped to be sure everyone had housing while displaced.
